It’s the northern most casino of what is considered “the Strip” (though Las Vegas Blvd. continues north splitting off to 4th street and taking you to the Downtown area) it’s larger than the Space Needle in Seattle WA, can be seen from anywhere in the Vegas Valley and it has rides on top of it at 1,149 feet in the air. In fact these are the world’s highest thrill rides. They include Big Shot for the brave and this one blasts you straight in the air and you ride up and down the absolute peak of the Stratosphere, then you have X Scream which is a roller coaster actually hanging off the edge of this monolithic structure, then for the suicidal you can bungee jump of the edge. The casino is older and is considered a bargain stay, especially for those who love roller coasters.
Though it is old, it is also large and features a giant casino floor and tons of rooms and they have been going through massive renovations lately to update their look including upgrading over 900 of their rooms and creating a grand front entrance with valet service. The new rooms will have flat screens, modern décor, and new furnishings. The Stratosphere attracts mainly a younger party crowd and those looking for a deal on the Strip. This is a good choice for families with older children as well. The main complaint is generally the age of the casino and the rooms and a smoky casino floor, even so it is usually agreed it is a great deal for the price and it is consistently highly rated by a younger crowd coming to Vegas to really have a great time.
The combination of its prices, its location, the general look and reputation and of course the rides makes Stratosphere a favorite for visitors. It fills to capacity regularly during busy summer weekends and holidays. Booking in advance is highly recommended.
Stratosphere has a moderately large casino floor at 80,000 square feet. They have over 1,200 slot machines and a variety of games. They have a small but popular poker room. They have a medium size Race and Sports Book seating 120 with 33 televisions and 24 big screens.
As mentioned the rooms are older, and this is one of the main complaints of the casino. They are priced extremely well however. There are 2,560 guest rooms and suites and over 900 of these are currently being renovated and upgraded.
Here you will find some of the best room rates on the Strip. Rates vary by occupancy and season and any special events in Las Vegas. Gambling limits are generally a bit below medium range for a Strip hotel, and these too vary by the clientele. Shopping and restaurants are both priced fairly. It should be noted the rides at Stratosphere as well as all of the rides on the Strip are more expensive than one would pay at a typical amusement park, however guests often get deals on rides. Overall it is an excellent deal for the Strip.
You’ll find a number of dining options here including Top of the World located on top of the Stratosphere. Other options include The Buffet, Roxy’s Diner, Fellini’s Ristorante, Italiano, El Nopal Mexican Grill, Tower Pizzeria and other smaller eateries like McDonalds and Wetzel’s Pretzels.
