Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

Located on the south end of the Strip just north of Mandalay Bay and on the corner of Tropicana Ave. and Las Vegas Blvd, Luxor is full of treasures, and sunken treasures at that. The Titanic exhibit has over 300 artifacts from the actual ship along with a number of replicas from the ship. The exhibit is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $28 and are good for 7 days from the time of purchase.

This exhibit along with the Bodies exhibit at Luxor were once at the Tropicana hotel casino, when they were moved the Titanic exhibit when through a number of changes and was expanded with 20 new artifacts that had never been seen before including gaming chips, passengers papers and decorative sections from Titanic’s Grand Staircase.

It is a very entertaining and educational exhibit, along with emotional naturally with 1,523 lives lost next to only 705 survivors. One of the most powerful sections is where you can see some of the personal stories of the passengers.

Some interesting facts about the Titanic:

  • It only had 20 lifeboats. Had they all been filled they would not have been room for all of the passengers.
  • It was the largest moving object of its time.
  • It cost $7.5 million at the time, and would cost $400 million to build today.
  • 10,000 men worked 3 years to build the ship.
  • 100,000 gathered to watch the ship take off.
  • 3rd class tickets were $40 at the time apx. $770 today.
  • 1st class tickets were $4,500 at then which would be $90,000 today.
  • 60lbs of coal could move the ship 60 feet.
